The mission of ASI is to 1. Work for food security for infants and small children via preparation, response, and recovery from emergencies and the life conditions which create social inequity and food instability. Our focus is on lactation, risk reduction with the handling of human milk and the handling and preparation of human milk substitutes and feeding equipment, and education about complementary feeding. 2. Train community leaders and all classes of people as lactation and infant and young child feeding specialists via workshops, conferences, clinical and field work, and mentorship. These services shall be accessible according to the resources of the people seeking services. 3. Combat systems of oppression which limit training and access to equitable services based on physical and emotional ability, social class and income, beliefs, education, civil status, sexual expression, gender, geography, national origin, ethnicity, sex and race.
