Statement of Purpose: OWLA is an organization that provides networking and education opportunities for those who work with breast/chest-feeding families. OWLA shall be operated exclusively for the educational, charitable, and scientific purposes as defined by 501(c)3 of the United States Internal Revenue code. More specifically the purposes of OWLA are: 2.1.1 To provide educational opportunities for International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) and other health care workers concerned with breast/chest feeding and related issues. 2.1.2 To provide a means of communication, networking and mutual support between lactation consultants and other health care workers concerned with breast/chest feeding and related issues. 2.1.3 To support high standards of inclusive and ethical professional practice. 2.1.4 To encourage and support certification of new lactation consultants. 2.1.5 To foster lactation services in areas of limited access and/or in historically marginalized communities (i.e., LGBTQ, BIPOC, etc.). 2.1.6 To collaborate with other organizations whose aims and objectives, in whole or in part are similar to those of OWLA. 2.1.7 To foster an awareness of breast/chest feeding and human milk feeding as important measures for health promotion and disease prevention. 2.1.8 To advise relevant authorities on issues of concern to lactation consultants.
