Kara serves as an equity facilitator. She provides services to the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, Mountain Plains, and West regions through online, in-person, hybrid, and phone-based formats.
Education & Credentials Kara has completed REI training and the Great Plains Public Health Leadership Institute, as well as the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Training Institute from CommonHealth ACTION. She is currently completing a training by Rise for Racial Justice called How to Facilitate Racially Just Spaces.
Work Highlights She has worked with governing bodies of an organization, individuals who oversee operations of teams, individuals in a formal leadership role, and staff/key personnel or volunteers within an organization. She has served and partnered with various populations, including Asian or Asian American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Hispanic or LatinX, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, White/Caucasian, Black/African American, immigrants, and LGBTQIA2S+.
Professional Summary Kara is the education and training manager for CityMatCH, a maternal and child health organization that values diversity, equity, and inclusion, and leads the field of MCH in becoming anti-racist. Her role is to lead an annual conference for members, who are made up of local health departments, state health departments, academics, and community partners. She ensures that all of the sessions focus on equity, diversity and inclusion. She helps operationalize DEI at conferences by maintaining diverse representation of speakers and making accommodations for all to have access to our conference. She also helps host learning collaboratives and is a senior project coordinator.
